Key Concepts

1. Industry- The grouping of businesses that share a common way of making profits. Examples: Music Industry, Healthcare Industry, Manufacturing Industry

2. Setting- A specific place that you're located or describing. They may share characteristics with other similar places. Example: College Campus Setting

3. Advocate- Someone who speaks on behalf or in favor of a organization or cause. Example: Animal Rights Advocate, Advocate for the Homeless.

4. Utilize- Using provided resources to your advantage. Using something for the purpose that it will provide a benefit for you and/or others.

5. Bias- Taking into consideration "your" preference on a subject, this is typically done without impartial judgment.



1. Contrast- To be set side by side in order to emphasize differences between two different entities. Example: The sight of abandoned or deteriorated older homes on one block, while across the street there upkept, relatively new, and aesthetically pleasing homes.

2. Disparities- The condition of being unequal in comparison with others. Example: The sight of abandoned or deteriorated houses on one block.

3. Adjacent- Living close to or near by. Example: My apartment building is adjacent to the train station.

4. Pride- Having and/or showing value for surroundings.

5. Suburban- Dispalying traits found in suburban areas, residential areas found outside the city.


1. Community- A group of people living in the same area, under the same type of rules. For instance Temple students in residence hall living under dorm rules.

2. Interpretation- Your personal view or definition of a word

3. Characteristics - having features that set you apart; making it distinguishable.

4. Socailization- Interacting and developing relationships with other people.

5. Institutions- A place associated with a specific purpose or function.



1. Renewable- Something that may be used and replaced infinitely.

2. Hazardous- Area exposing at product that has the potential to cause personal harm.

3. Contamination- Area that has been exposed or polluted with a harmful substance.

4. Nuclear Waste- The byproduct of nuclear fission, which is used to create and generate nuclear power.

5. Atmosphere- The air and climate in an area


1. Community- Expands on the definition previously provided . I'm thinking of the word "Community" in a larger context. This community includes everyone involve with Temple including every type of student, worker, & professor. In my previous definition I eluded to only a segment of the student population.

2. Demographic- The result of a population being broken down into groups with specific traits.

3. Expansion- Increasing in size, such as Temple's growth in area with the development and acquisition of space, making the universities boundary larger.

4. Infrastructure- Basic facility used to provide a service to a community or neighborhood.

5. Declining- Steadily falling lower or decreasing. Example: The residential population of this part of North Philadelphia has has gone down from 21,892 people in 1992 to 14,193 in 2006 (not real numbers).
